Jonas Johansen Adventure Trio, Johansen’s new group, is a guitar trio with music is built on catchy lines and grooves integral to the compositions. The spacey and airy vibe in the music presents Johansen’s most melodic side as a composer. And the group reflects mature musicians wanting to tell a story as directly and clearly as possible. Jonas’s ability to fluently incorporate inspiration from his travels all over the world, becomes the backbone of the groove in the band. It’s a global vibe, as Jonas has a passion, in live and music, for everything that’s global.

The trio presents three absolute top names on the European jazz scene

Thor Madsen is a Chicago born Danish guitarist, composer and producer residing in Copenhagen. He plays with a direct no-nonsense captivating attitude, that really makes his guitar sing. Thor has toured and recorded all over Europe, Brazil, India, and USA. Bands include Jazz Explorer Trio (also with Johansen), Jan Harbecks Live Jive Jungle, Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra, Camille Jones and Abdullah S. Star names includes Norah Jones, Donny McCaslin, Eddie Henderson The Nublu Orchestra and Matt Penman. Thor’s current band Thor De Force, has two albums out on the New York based label Ropeadope Records.

Lennart Ginman is a Grammy Winning Danish bass player, composer and producer who has built a reputation as one of the leading voices on the instrument in his generation. Band collaborations include Ginman/Blackman/Dahl, Sinne Eeg Group, Page One and Tomas Franck Quartet (also an album with Johansen). Star names include Lee Konitz, Kirk Lightsey, Johnny Griffin, Palle Mikkelborg, Chris Cheek, Scott Hamilton Kenny Werner, Doug Raney, Cæcilie Nordby and of cause Gainman/Jørgensen and Ginman/Eivør.

Jonas Johansen is a true orchestral drummer, with a universal sound developed through 40 years of top-level performances and more than 200 albums, including 16 albums under his own name. Jonas was the drummer in DR Big Band 1990 – 1999, and NHØP Trio 1996-2005. Currently he works with a.o. Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra, Lars Møller in various settings, Rosalia De Souza Quarteto 55° as well as own groups Blanco y Negro, Divisions Trio and Jazz Explorer Trio. Jonas has performed with a.o. McCoy Tyner, John Scofield, Egberto Gismonti, Maria Schneider, Eliane Elias, Marc Johnson, Toninho Horta, Tom Harrell, Steve Swallow and Mike Stern.

Jonas Johansen plays Istanbul Agop Cymbals exclusively

City Women is the newest single from Jonas Johansen Adventure Trio. The single is released in connection with the release of the Adventure Trio LP Vinyl, on February 29, 2024. The song is a Cadeau to city women, in any city – any place in the world. Living with three women, Johansen learned that a woman going into town is something. The mood, the style, the vibe, the whole thing around her is another thing than the same woman going somewhere else… The trio features master guitarist Thor Madsen and renowned star bassist Lennart Ginman.

Sweet Nose is another celebration of Danish drummer/bandleader Jonas Johansen’s wife. Since it’s impossible to cover all his woman’s assets in one song, the celebration is split up in parts – this tune celebrating her nose, since she has such an immensely sweet nose. The song is also a celebration of all sweet noses on all living creatures on the planet. Jonas is supported by Thor Madsen (electric guitar) and award-winning Lennart Ginman (double bass).

Afternoons is the 3rd single from Jonas Johansen and his new trio with Lennart Ginman (double bass) and Thor Madsen (electric guitar). This tune describes the traveler’s afternoons. The touring musician often has wonderful afternoons. After traveling from early morning, and before concert sound check, there is often this little period during the day with time to breathe, time for a tea, a coffee or glass of wine on a café overlooking a small square in the city of the concert.

Soulmate is the second single from the new trio of Danish drummer/bandleader Jonas Johansen. To have a true soulmate, is one the finest things a human being can achieve. It is also scientifically proven to be healthy. Jonas wrote this to his highly beloved wife. It has a strong groove and a fine melody, for the trio to elaborate strongly within, on top – and around. Jonas Johansen is joined by Lennart Ginman (acoustic bass) and Thor Madsen (electric guitar).

Windows is the first single from the Danish drummer Jonas Johansen and his new trio. In new trio Jonas is supported by the Danish multi-award winning bassist Lennart Ginman and American born, European guitar virtuoso Thor Madsen. Jonas is a traveler of the world, and the title signifies “opening your windows to the world”. Its pretty simple melodic material, performed with an almost minimalistic groove, by three grand musicians from the European scene.
